I am running xfire on windows 8. Don't recall having to do anything fancy with it. Maybe just run it as administrator, but that's all I did

After redownloading it adder. Does windows 8 have the right mouse click and feature "run as administrator"? If so try that.

make sure you are running as an administrator, then right click x-fire icon in desktop and then go to properties-compatilibily mode-change to desired compatibility mode
