So i'll be going to college in a few months and my parents surprisingly told me i could get a laptop for the season. Could anyone give me some advices or suggestions for a laptop? I'm looking for a medium sized laptop, nothing too huge, one that can play fairly new games and is cheap, ~800 or lower. And if you can't really find a laptop in that, just throw some random laptops that seem good. thanks

I think the best thing I could do is to recommend a Lenovo. I have a souped up G510, and it ended me costing around 2,000 because I got so many upgrades from the manufacturer (16 gig ram, 3 tb hard drive, the works). The base model is, however, 800 dollars so it's definitely worth looking into. Lenovo is a great brand and the computers are real workhorses. I have a friend with an Acer with almost the same specs and it's both easily broken and it runs a bit slower for some reason.
Lenovo ships really quickly, and they offer probably the best prices. I linked a few computers for around 800.
By medium-sized I assumed you meant either a 14 inch or a 15.6 inch, so all of the laptops are within those sizes. All of the ones I included can also play games pretty well.

Lenovo ideapads are also quite good but are less great for gaming. However they are a bit cheaper and weight less. If you have 800 to play with definitely pick one of the 15.6 or 14 inch laptops that I linked.
I did some shopping last November and Lenovo was pretty much the brand I picked. I spent about 5 days shopping around and checking everything out, so this really is a good option. They also come pre-packaged with a lot of useful software that makes Win8 better to use.
Whatever you choose, whether it be a Lenovo or some other brand, best of luck and enjoy college!

I have a friend with a G510 (base) that he got for about 750 dollars after tax. It plays ESO on high graphics without distortion, and he can play Skyrim on high as well. With all of my additions (mainly the extra ram and better graphics), I can pull ultra on ESO. It's a really good brand.

You're not really going to find a good gaming laptop unless you spend $1000 or more. But as for a decent laptop to run games that aren't high end such as Halo + League + CS:GO, then the laptops Paradox has mentioned on the post above are decent enough to handle for mid level gaming + your college work. I'm not a laptop type of person or an expert with them, but that's pretty much all the information I can provide you with.
