Sorry in advance because I know this has been brought up but I couldn't find an obvious thread.
I'm getting a new laptop in a few days but I've lost my Halo disc. I still have the key thanks to a nifty key finder program but I'll need to reinstall. Can I just copy the Halo directory from this PC to the new one and reinstall from that?

I'm not an expert, so get confirmation, but I expect it needs to install to the registry (and perhaps other locations in addition to 'Program Files'), so simply copying from 'Program Files' might not be sufficient.
I think that your best bet would be to find an iso copy of the Halo disc, mount it on a virtual drive and go from there.
As for getting an iso, I'm not sure - in the past the only ones I could find online tend to be dodgy-looking torrents of cracked versions of Halo.

I may be able to take the files off of my disc, compress them, and upload them to Google Drive.. Getting an ISO would be your best bet.

Yep. You would need the ISO and Daemon Tools Lite. Once you've gotten the 600MB ISO file downloaded, then use Daemon Tools Lite to open the .ISO file and install Halo afterwards.
Edit: One more thing - Once you've have it installed, go to Program Files and then Microsoft Games/Halo and click on Haloupdate.exe as it will update your Halo to 1.09.

Put the entire halo folder onto a usb and move it to your new computer. Then just run the installer and update it !! Thats what I did when I changed my computer. |

Can someone confirm that this would work? Cos it does sound easier.

ya hat you can do that as long as it's the entire directory once you update it all the drivers and such that you may need will be installed

You can try that, Hat, but if I were you I'd install it properly.
E: I tried to burn my Halo disc to an iso, but it wouldn't let me (I assume due to copyright). Someone more technical might be able to, however.

Where did you get the Halo.ISO from anyways?

Correct. That has been on the vps and even gameservers.com ftp for years. |
