Razer Megalodon, if you want to sound whore like me. I can hear spawns, people switching weapons, footsteps, incoming vehicles nearby, and weapon firing. It's also comfortable. The only problems are that the headset is $150 which might be too expensive for you and the microphone on it gets messed up a little at times.

Plantronics Gamecom 780 are really good. They have 7.1 surround sound built in and are comfortable. They cover the whole ear. They are less than $60 on amazon.com.

I have Koss PortaPro headphones - they're good for travel and I can't fault the sound quality. You're probably after something a little more fancy, though.

Do you have a good sound card? If so, then get Sennheiser PC 330 G4ME. But if you have built in 7.1 sounds like me, then get an USB headset with 7.1 surround sounds.
