Found this to be really interesting. The videos show the education system of Finland, and for those that don't feel like watching all of these:
The teachers go through years of training and working with children before they are allowed to teach fully as a teacher (They have to be able to actually teach and respect their students!)
Students don't start school until age 7
Schools are generally small and comfortable, and students refer to their teachers by first names
Teachers often teach the same students for numerous years, making it easier for students to follow teaching patterns
Students facing learning problems are dealt with early on, providing a nearly nonexistent learning gap in later years among students
The system is based on trust; Students are trusted by teachers, and teachers are trusted by those above them
Students aren't formally tested in schools until they reach high school
Teachers recognize that collaborating in future careers is necessary, so students are encouraged to work together while completing individual assignments, using discussions with other students and multiple resources from those students; here it would be considered cheating
Classes range from 45 to 75 minutes each; most attend school from 8am (or later) until 4pm
3 month summer vacation
Students are rarely given homework, allowing them to flourish in other hobbies
Later on in their educational paths, students are allowed to choose either a general education path or a vocational path
Finland spends less money than the U.S. does each year per student, but ranks higher on numerous world scales for education
Finland ranked #1 on PISA exams from the year they began until 2009
