!! MC Server Ideas !!

Hey everybody! As you all know the ZA MC server has been down for quite sometime now. The reason being is because there are not alot of people getting on and it needs to be more active. :/ Well I'm letting you all know that I really want that to change and I think we can all work together to make that happen.
I've been given the responsibility to try revamp our MC server to make it popular and more active. I think it is a great idea and I am totally up for it  I will need some help from our members though too. One of the main things I will need help with is ideas for the server. It is the one thing I have been stuck on and been trying to figure out. There are soooo many things you can do with a MC server and I definitely think we need to come up with some kind of a vote for what we all want. I know everyone will want to give an opinion on it but I think we should have the people that actually play Minecraft decide what will be good for our server.
Sooo I want you guys to post ideas here and don't just think about what you want also think about what other people want and whats popular right now. We want to make this server open to the public eventually but we just need to get it up and running first

As your apprentice I will be involved as much as I can and I think we should make a battle style with points added if possible. I think if we copy something similar to stats, we can definitley attract some people and you can count on me to help since I do play MC

I've been playing survivor (but not online). I've only ever played online doing hunger games and in our server on creative. I don't really know what our options are.

We need to add something to make larger projects easier to build. I want to build a few things, (underground arsenals, for example) but it would simply take too much time to do without modding, even in creative.
I do agree that we need to get MC activity higher. There are directories for MC servers, so we could post our site link an stuff to that, and on the home page put a 'Want to join MC? Cick here!'
That could link to our rules and whitelist, exc, as well as telling how to join.
As for modding and stuff like that, we could go a few different routes. There are faction servers, where you have two (or more but our server is too small to be so divided at this point) factions. That would work if we got more people in, but we'd have to make application for our MC easier since grief era are rarer than you'd think, and if you get banned you need a whole different MC game. The bases could be separate, exc. You can have multiple worlds (seeds) on the same server, so you could have two parts. The first seed is the faction server, while the other is the no fighting, build in creative one, and warping between worlds is possible. This requires a few plugins but it isn't difficult.
The second important thing is that the server needs to be up to date regularly, because I was locked out for a while on multiple occasions because I had a different version of Minecraft.
But anyway, another route we could take for the server is having cities and PVP areas. If you're in the boundaries of a city territory (so like a city and a certain distance from it) you cannot PVP but if you are outside a cities boundary, you can PVP. This would work for factions too. In order to be designated a city you need a few people to settle there.
But yea those are some examples of what we can do. We just need the plugins. The main thing is that we need to keep an open mind with the plugins and mods, because while some (like world edit) can be used for griefing, you can edit the permissions of who can and cannot use it with a few (extra) mods.

Im currently helping admin the CnR MC server (which is booming) and I can tell you right now that going public with a server is super duper hard work. If you don't have the correct plugins the griefers will have your server over-run in no time. I think that CnR server has about 25 plugins alone ranging from mcmmo to logblock. To run a public server, it needs a full time online dedicated staff and that is something we don't have yet. I think we should just keep the server private for now, until we all have more time from school etc.

I think this is how we should go about this at the moment.
1. Decide on a idea for the server. Example (Factions, PvP, Economy, Hunger Games, etc.)
2. Once we decide on the idea build the server. Meaning the spawn and anything else that we deem necessary.
3. Implement all the plugins and make sure they are all good to go.
4. Create a dedicated staff because with out one the server will fail.
5. Go public
Remember there are ways to have multiple server hubs in one. I play on a server right now that has a main server hub that you go into and from there you can pick which kind of server you want to play. Whether it be Hunger Games, Factions, Survival, Economy.

+5 for Allie. I think that is the best thought out plan possible, and I could see that work well but of course, we need people dedicated to the server as well. I mean, I play mroe now, but It depends on if stuff come up such as school or work

We'll need more people dedicated mostly to minecraft in order to staff it. Like I said, we don't have to go full public, we still can keep an application through the site, but in either case, public or moderated, we should bring in a few people as admins who aren't from ZA, but are trustworthy.

That is true which is why I am going to ask you to look into any friends you have that play. We will also be able to advertise our server online on websites and what not. Right now our main concern is getting an idea for the server, than building it.
