Finally built my new PC.
Curiously got my new motherboard four days early. Wasn't supposed to get here until Tuesday. But the nice Amazon people must have suddenly decided to send it early.
It works perfectly(Uh... except for the CPU fan speed not registering, but nevermind that! :/).
Installed Windows 8. Now all I need to do is install games and more importantly... connect to the internet.(I mean, a computer's nothing without the internet, right?!).
Oh and I need to upgrade to legit Windows 8. I'm on the Release Preview atm.
But the coolest thing so far is...
My computer boots in 2-4 seconds! No longer. It boots seriously quick. All 'cause of the motherboard's awesome boot feature thingy. I didn't think it would work unless I had a solid state drive, but even on a SATA I HDD(Only until I get an SSD for christmas), it still boots seriously quick.
Anyway, my specs are:
M5A97 R2.0
Phenom II X4 965
OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W
Corsair XMS3 4GB 1600Mhz
Geforce 9500 GT
Western Digital 250GB HDD (Can't be bothered to find it's actual name and link)
Yeah, I know the graphics card sucks compared to the rest of the PC. I'm saving up to get a new graphics card. But this works for now.
Oh and I might post photos tomorrow. It's 1:21am atm though so gonna go play Halo campaign for a while, then go to sleep.

When you're installing the motherboard, you should lay the case on its side carefully. Otherwise the backplate will just keep falling and getting on your nerves. I almost gave up just because of the backplate. I wasted hours trying to get it to stay while I installed the motherboard. Oh and if the backplate clips get in your way, you can bend them back. (It's just that some advise against it because they help the backplate connect with the motherboard)
And search whether CPU fans fit the motherboard you're getting. Different CPUs have different fans. And in some cases, the fans just simply don't fit the motherboard even if the CPUs themselves are compatible. If a CPU's stock fan is reported to not fit your motherboard, you should get an aftermarket cooler. They're usually better anyway.
My CPU fan didn't really fit my motherboard. I managed to force it to fit eventually without too much trouble, but it didn't naturally fit. So if I hadn't been impatient, it would have been a good idea for me to have gotten an aftermarket cooler. There's a major risk to forcing the fan to fit. If I'd pushed it too hard or in the wrong direction, the CPU could have been damaged.
Oh and either get a big case or a small motherboard. My case seemed massive to me but it still barely had enough room for my motherboard. I can't decide whether it was because my motherboard was too big or because the case wasn't big enough. :/ (And yet the case is still about twice as big as the case my uh... old PC is in) |

What grade flangetacks do you have? Cos I improved my pipe trench to a 3.0 the other week and my performance is up by about 3 gubbins.

thats awsome Jaz. Just one thing, make sure your fan is running though. Otherwise you'll burn up your new motherboard fast, and i mean fast. As you know it wasn't cheap. |

Nah, I got my parts from Amazon. I don't live in the US so can't get parts from newegg unfortunately. I heard newegg has awesome sales. :/

Yeah, I know. I did check that it's actually running and it is. And it's quite good considering it's not detected properly by the motherboard. The motherboard's temperature hasn't yet gone past 20 degrees centigrade, even after playing Halo, installing a bunch of stuff, and using GIMP. But then there are more performance intensive tasks to carry out so I'll see how good the fan fairs then. My case fans are awesome though. The Antec One really is an incredibly budget case. It has great airflow and great included fans. |

I had the Geforce 9500GT. It was a decent 1gb DDR2 card. I sold it to MasterA and now have the Nvidia GTX 550 TI with 2gb DDR5 which runs BF3 quite well.

Yeah the 9500GT runs Halo quite well but I'll upgrade as soon as I can afford it. |
