Vitamin C is important in the body for production of collagen, an important protein in the growth and repair of tissues. Vitamin C also acts as an antioxidant which helps to remove free radicals and can also help to boost the immune system of an individual. Vitamin C taken in regularly is also slightly helpful when a person has the common cold.
Who Discovered Vitamin C?
A Scottish man names James Lind discoved vitamin C in 1747. While we know today that it heightens the immune system, it was then known to fight off scurvy
What is the Function of Vitamin C?
The number one function of vitamin C is to have a protective quality for the bodys immune system. It helps our skin, gums, cardiovascular system, and much more.
What is Vitamin C Used for?
Vitamin C is often thought to be the "cold-fighting" vitamin. While vitamin C may enhance immune system function, it also plays a role in the formation of important enzymes in the body, aids in a range of metaolic reactions, and acts as an antioxidan

It helps with energy as it comes from fruits/vegetables. But I wouldn't take the pills. Every g*ddamn pills have bad side effects. That's why I don't take Tylenol or Advil anymore whenever I have a fever. Pill free FTW!

What Brick said. Want to get fit and healthy? Don't bother with the protein pills and tablets, just change your diet.

What Hat said ^ Just change your diet. Remember, your diet is what goes inside your BODY.
So basically putting it like this:
You wouldn't put diesel in a Ferrari, would you? Same goes for your body(;

The thing is, doctors say that it helps fight colds, exc. But this could be a placebo, as anything above a certain amount every day does nothing for you.

I don't take a specific amount because the only benefit vitamin C really imparts is the ability to prevent scurvy.

NB. Ascorbate = Vitamin C
"Ascorbate (the anion of ascorbic acid) is required for a range of essential metabolic reactions in all animals and plants."
"All species that do not synthesize ascorbate" (this includes humans) "require it in the diet. Deficiency in this vitamin causes the disease scurvy in humans."
"Scurvy is an avitaminosis resulting from lack of vitamin C, since without this vitamin, the synthesised collagen is too unstable to perform its function. Scurvy leads to the formation of brown spots on the skin, spongy gums, and bleeding from all mucous membranes. The spots are most abundant on the thighs and legs, and a person with the ailment looks pale, feels depressed, and is partially immobilized. In advanced scurvy there are open, suppurating wounds and loss of teeth and, eventually, death."

Did you know that Wikipedia being unreliable is a common misconception and that it is actually more reliable than most encyclopaedias, including the Encyclopaedia Britannica? Wikipedia also references all its information so all its information is backed up by other sources.
So no, going to Wikipedia for references is like going to a site kept constantly up to date by a large range of experts in every subject you can imagine.
