The flood are NOT zombies.
They are 'living dead' parasites from 100,000 years ago when they entered the Milky Way, 100,000 years ago... They consume all, and there are multiple stages of a flood and different types of flood.
INFECTION FORM:
The infection form is the smallest form of flood, and it is the "host" when infecting a living human or animal or other living object. It enters, in the human, the chest, via skin-piercing "tentacle-like" objects that infect the human or living object when entered into the body. This causes the human/living thing to turn into a flood, and afterwards, the infection form will remain in the original body [transformed, now a flood form, no skin remains.]. The infection form is the most common flood form, with many being in packs: some decide to climb walls and ignore life forms. Others will travel in packs of usually around 20. The infection form is the easiest to kill with one round from an Assault Rifle being able to kill it. Automatic weapons are better for Infection Form packs.
COMBAT FORM:
There are multiple types of the combat form. The combat form is the form of a flood that's been infected by an infection form. The three types are the previous species that were alive before infection: Humans, Elites, and Brutes can all be infected into Combat Forms. Elites can be infected by an infection form and still have their shields or armor on, making them harder to kill. The combat form is easy to kill with the right weapons. The human is the weakest, and the Brute is slightly easier to kill than an Elite combat form. The combat forms carry weapons that the original life form carried.
CARRIER FORM:
These flood are a different type of flood, serving as sort of a "parent". When harmed, or if they are close enough to their enemy, they will fall over and explode, releasing a huge pack of infection forms. They will also do this if shot to death, but if stuck with a plasma or spike grenade, they will not release any infection forms, making this method of eliminating Carrier Forms much safer.
^^ THESE ARE A DIFFERENT TYPE OF FLOOD, WHICH ARE THE NORMAL, MORE COMMON TYPES OF FLOOD. THE FOLLOWING FLOOD TYPES ARE KNOWN AS PURE FORMS. PURE FORMS DEVELOP WITHOUT HOSTS, AND ONCE SUFFICIENT HOSTS HAVE BEEN INFECTED, AND THE GRAVEMIND IS DEVELOPED, THE FLOOD CAN, AND WILL, REPRODUCE WITHOUT INFECTION.
TANK FORM:
The tank form is the biggest flood form known to existence that attacks, other than the Gravemind. The tank form will release infection forms from their bodies when they are either injured, or need support for a battle against their enemies (Master Chief, humans, covenant, or other living forms). They are extremely hard to fight without heavy or at least decent "damage-dealing" weapons. They are very high in health, and sometimes may survive a rocket blast. They can attack with either their produced infection forms or their own "claws".
STALKER FORM:
The stalker form, sometimes referred to as a spider-type due to its spider-like shape, is a flood that crawls around the area, on walls, the floor, and the ceiling. It will only attack if close to the enemy or if close [i]and[i] being attacked; otherwise, it will crawl about the area normally and will not do harm. They aren't tough to kill, if even needed, and do not provide a tough challenge. Their long, springy-like legs allow the Stalker Form to be very agile, giving it the ability to jump great distances and heights.
RANGED FORM:
The Ranged Form is a form of the flood that can be both offensive and defensive. The ranged form can only attack via a carbine-like substance that is shot as a projectile at the enemy. The ranged form can also climb about walls and ceilings easily with their legs. If injured severely, they will close their center area up and huddle within itself for around 20 seconds. They can still be damaged in this position, but not as much. Usually, a plasma grenade will instantly kill it with enough damage and is a good technique for closed ranged forms.
--------------------
BRAIN FORM/PROTO-GRAVEMIND
The Brain Form, which is also known as the Proto-Gravemind, is one of the rarest types of Flood, and, is the beginning stage of a Gravemind form. Bearing little resemblance to the other Flood forms, the Proto-Gravemind is entirely passive and lacks any sort of mobility or defense. It's thought that the Proto-Gravemind is the product of the syntactical fusion of several Combat Forms, merging all of its subordinate forms into a massive, bloated, spherical organism with spindle-like outgrowths that adhere to the surrounding environment. Proto-Graveminds are very unique in that the conscious of the original host organisms are still vaguely maintained, allowing for limited mental resistance to Flood assimilation. However, with highly intuitive perception, the Flood is able to sift through the individual memories of the original host, looking for those that are of importance to the overall Flood species while removing memories that pose a threat. When a useful memory is found, it is incorporated into the general consciousness of the Flood.
GRAVEMIND:
The Gravemind is the all-encompassing intelligence of the Flood. It is assumed to be the highest state of transformation that a Flood form can achieve. It is believed that once a 'critical mass' of Flood forms have been fused together in both body and mind, a Gravemind form is created.
GRAVEMIND INTELLIGENCE:
The Gravemind assumes a centralized sentient intelligence that is believed to lead the general Flood species through symbiotic or telepathic means. It is intent on propagating the Flood species through combat as well as delusion, coercion, and ultimately betrayal. It also appears to hold all of the Flood's memories, even those of individual organisms and all of previous Graveminds. It is full capable of directing the overall Flood species and of manipulating others to do its bidding.
GRAVEMIND PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Physically, the Gravemind is a massive, tentacled entity, somewhat resembling an engorged Venus flytrap with a gigantic fleshy neck, an indistinct head, and a prominent, massive mouth. It possesses huge tentacles of extraordinary length and strength, each of which is capable of extending hundreds of kilometers.
MULTIPLE GRAVEMINDS??
Theoretically, there can only be one Gravemind at a time, so if one is killed, another may form shortly thereafter if the Flood retains sufficient biomass. It appears that one existed over 100,000 years ago, but it was destroyed by the first firing of the Halo Array. Another was recreated afterwards in the depths of Installation 05. Upon its release, it showed remarkable understanding of Forerunner technology, even going so far as to capture the resident Monitor, 2401 Penitent Tangent, manipulating the installation's teleportation system, and understanding the purpose and intricacies of the Halo installations.
-----------------------------------
FLOOD HISTORY:
Although its origin remains unknown, the Flood is a highly virulent extra galactic, parasitic life form whose sole purpose is the consumption of sentient life as a food source to sustain its continued expansion.
THE FLOOD'S PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Flood biomass is composed of an undifferentiated cell-type that is referred to as the Flood Super Cell (FSC), which can be described as approximating "thinking muscle." The FSC closely resembles neurons of glial cells in structure. The Flood can arrange these cells to mimic any organ it might need.
--- THE FLOOD AND THE HALO ARRAY ---
A little more than 100,000 years ago, the Flood infested this sector of the Milky Way Galaxy, consuming a vast swath of sentient species along the path of populated worlds. After too much time spent trying to find a means of stopping the parasitic Flood , the Forerunners determined that the only solution to the threat was a desperate act of self-destruction.
They created the Halo Array as a means of eradicating the Flood, but it would come at the cost of every highly intelligent life form in the Galaxy. The Forerunners removed substantial portions of the species from the populated worlds within the striking field of the Halo Array, and kept them safe for reseeding on their homeworlds when their planets could once again sustain life. Samples of the Flood were also brought to Halo Installations, where the specimens were studied in continued hopes of finding a less cataclysmic method of countering the Flood threat. The specimens studied on the Halo Installations were intended to remain dormant forever, but the effects of time and interlopers broke this containment in at least two locations. This released the Flood upon a Galaxy which had long ago forgotten how much destruction could come from even a single Flood spore.
-------------------------------------------------------------
--- THE FLOOD: EVOLUTIONARY STAGES ---
The Flood goes through four distinct evolutionary stages ---
1. THE FERAL STAGE: The feral stage is the lowest level of a symbiotic sustained form: Communicating via pheromones and with the natural instinct to harvest enough calcium to establish a viable Gravemind.
2. THE COORDINATED STAGE: The coordinated stage is when the Flood becomes truly dangerous; it now takes orders from the Gravemind that was created in the first stage.
3. THE INTERSTELLAR STAGE: The interstellar stage allows the Flood to use hosts to take control of technology and spread throughout the Galaxy to infect more hosts.
4. THE INTERGALACTIC STAGE: The intergalactic stage is the last known stage the Flood enters, during which it utilizes all captured technology to seek uninfected Galaxies for new food supplies so it can further replicate. It is unknown whether the Flood that arrived in the Milky Way originated from an Intergalactic level Flood.

This is about 25% information about Flood that is known to humans today.

The flood are not zombies, they are alien parasites that take control of the bodies of other creatures. To be a zombie, you have to be an undead, but if the flood were to detach itself from the creature, it would die, but the parasite would continue to exist.

A parasite is an organism that lives in another organism, called the host, and often harms it. It is dependent on its host for survival - it has to be in the host to live, grow and multiply. A parasite cannot live independently. A parasite rarely kills the host. The parasite benefits at the expense of the host - the parasite uses the host to gain strength, and the host loses some strength as a result. |

this parasite attaches itself to non-living or barely organisms and feeds off the body itself. The body moves as though living, but should the parasite remove itself it will die.

This is what i think if it matters
The Flood are parasites yes? I believe they are capable of taking over one's mind and use the body as their own though i think the victim may have some sort of conscious still, isnt there one marine from Halo 1 who apparantly was infected by the Flood yet was aware of everything? Anyway the body eventually dies BUT the parasite's nervous system extends to the arms and legs of the victim's once living corpse thus it uses it as its own body but the body is dead if you get what i mean thus giving the corpse its decomposing look, in Halo 3, combat form floods can be renanimated by the parasite forms...
I guess the question is WHAT is A zombie? What makes a zombie "A" zombie |

i dont think the marine was infected by the flood, i think he saw the horrible scene and lost his mind. haha.
if you stand long enough infront of a flood i think they will kill you and feed on you after you are dead which makes them scavenzers.
but on the other hand master chief was taken alive and made him a host without killing him first which makes them a parasite.
parasite + scavenzers = zombies hahaha |

A secondary enemy is the Flood, a parasitic alien life form that appears in three main variants.Infection Forms, the true form of the Flood, are fragile and do little damage individually, but often travel in swarms of several dozen. Combat Forms result from humans and Covenant Elites who have succumbed to the Infection Forms, and have hideously deformed bodies. Bloated Carrier Forms are the result of an aged or unused Combat Form and serve as incubators for new Infection Forms; when wounded or near a potential victim, they explode to damage other nearby life-forms and to release their spores, thus perpetuating the life cycle.

Floods and tsunamis are way different. A flood is an overflow of water that covers the ground. A tsunami is a large wave. |

Fun Fact x2: A tsunami could destroy a city the size of Manhattan if it were large enough
Believe me, it can happen.

Tsunamis aren't really those towering waves with peaks and everything, they're usually just the entire sea suddenly swelling up. Over buildings.
