"Sir, I've got a strange signal here." A man behind a computer screen said after turning to a man holding a cup of coffee and wearing a suit and tie.
The man in the suit looked at the screen, his brow furrowed in concentration. "What the hell is that?"
"I don't know Sir. It looks like a virus but I can't lock on to where it originated. But where ever it came from it's looking for a specific computer system."
"Then stop it before it gets what it's after."
"I can't. Every defence I put up against it just goes right threw."
"Sir! Something just hit the Central Online Gaming Network!" Someone yelled from the other end of the room.
"Shut down the COGN! This thing will not spread on my watch!"
"I can't stop it! I can't do anything!" Multiple people started shouting this across the room.
"Sir, The virus cut off our control, we can't do anything but watch." The man in the suit just stood there for a few seconds.
"What is it doing in the COGN?" He asked. The question was followed by silence except for the tapping of keyboards.
"Sir, um. I don't know how to put this."
"Spit it out!"
"It appears to be tapping into gamers systems. Trapping them into the game, and.......reprogramming the system."
Their screens went black and then the announcement of the tournament came up on the screens.
"I want all the people trapped in those damn games to be found and to be put on life support! We don't know how long this 'tournament' will take!"
"Yes Sir!" Multiple people shouted throughout the room.
Throughout the nation, ambulances roared down roads finding those who were trapped in the game world. Since their conscious was in the game, medical staff could remove the bodies and transfer them to emergency clinics that were being equipped with game chairs so if it left the game it could find the persons body. If it didn't, who knew. Nobody really wanted to find out what happened in that scenario, so they worked fast. Once people started dying things got real edgy at medical centers. If someone died their conscious would return to them, but they wouldn't speak. Instead, their eyes would open and roll to the back of their head. They would start twitching spasmodically as they simultaneously had a heart attack. Nothing they could do would stop these returns from happening. Family of those still in the chairs and family of those who had died demanded entry into the rooms, but were refused. Government officials were soon at all these clinics securing them. Only medical staff and government officials were allowed into these clinics, no civilians. Things were worse on the outside though. The people were forced to watch the matches the people in the tournament played, because the virus hit all broadcasting networks as well. And the Government couldn't stop this either. Every TV screen in the nation showed it. Every second of it.
