Jym came through the other side of the teleporter to see a man, and boy standing there. The man's armour was all to familiar. "Adder, it's been too long."
Adder turned to face Jym. "Ice. I wish our meeting was under," he paused a moment, "better circumstances." He finished. They stood in silence watching the cold scenery for a few minutes.
"Is Star here too?" Jym asked. Adder didn't respond. "I can tell your worried. Don't try to hide it."
"Promise me something."
"What?"
"If something happens to-"
"Nothings gonna happen to you." Jym cut him off. "We are all gonna get out alive. You, Star, and your son, Prodigy, are gonna make it out. I swear on it." There was another few minutes of silence before Adder told Prodigy to go back into the base.
"How's Star handling it?" Jym asked trying to kill the silence.
"She's definitely upset. She has herself busied checking the warthogs to keep her mind off of it. I tried to tell her that she doesn't have to be on the front of the battle, but she just kept ignoring me."
"I'll keep an eye on her out there."
"Thanks."
Jym handed him an assault rifle and a pistol. "We are starting in a few minutes, so I suggest we get ready." Broady came through the teleporter as Jym said this.
"Broady, you're on base duty guard the flag." Jym walked up to Broady and whispered. "And watch the boy."
"Here, take my frags and plasma grenades then." Broady said as he handed them over. There was four of each so he split them up evenly between himself and Adder.
"Star is gonna be in charge of transport." Adder said. "She is gonna get us as close to red base as she can. We are gonna run in, grab the flag, and run like hell back to the hog."
"Sounds like a plan to me." Jym said. They went back into base to wait for the game start. The over voice announced the game start and they ran like hell. Star and Adder were already jumping into a hog, and Jym climbed onto the gun on the back. The hog lurched forward as Star punched the gas. The hog seemed to glide on the snow rather the ride on it. The came to the half way of the map, still no resistance. The Reds apparently had no plan so far. Jym saw snipers on the top level and he spun up the gun turret, sending a hail storm of bullets at them. One collapsed, dead, as another fled, their shields shimmering from absorbing damage. The hog stopped behind a huge snow mound some distance from the red base.
"This is as far as I go!" Star yelled over the combat happening in the background.
Adder and Jym jumped out dashing for the red base. Adder fired off rounds from his assault rifle as Jym pulled out his pistol and started pulling off headshots on the people whose shields were depleted due to Adders barrages of assault rifle rounds. They made it to the entrance unscathed and tossed frags into the base before running in themselves. Sure enough they killed a couple people with the grenades and ran in. Jym stormed through the blood and gore covered insides of the base as he went after the flag. Adder stayed at the entrance.
They emerged from the base with flag in hand. Jym ran with the flag, and dumped the sniper to get more speed. They got in the hog and started to punch it. They were almost out of range when a sniper rifle shot left their ears ringing. The hog swerved and flipped over on it's side.
Jym could vaguely hear "Star!" Being shouted. Jym sat up, apparently he had been thrown from the hog when it flipped. He set the flag down on the ground behind the flipped hog. He ran over to Adder and helped drag Star behind the hog. The round had pierced the driver seat and went through her abdomen. "Oh god..." Adder kept murmuring.
"Adder, put pressure on the wound there should be a kit in the console of the hog!" He yelled at Adder to pull his attention towards the situation. Adder did as he was told. The problem was the kit would be on the other side, within the snipers range and vision. Jym climbed over the hog and dropped down, yanking the med box free as quickly as he could. Another sniper shot rang out as it missed him by inches. Jym ran around the hog with the box. Star was moaning loudly in pain. "Move!" Jym yelled at Adder has he opened the med box. Jym grabbed a can of biofoam. "Star, I'm sorry, but this is gonna hurt." Jym said. He stuck the nozzle in the wound and pulled the trigger, filling the wound with the biofoam. He tossed the can off to the side, and waited for the foam to dry.
"Will she be fine?" Adder asked quickly.
"Yes. She'll just need rest. You need to let the biofoam harden and keep out any bacteria. Until then, we need to flip this hog and get moving before they come after us." They grabbed the edges of the hog after moving Star out of the way, and started to pull on the hog. It eventually creaked and flipped over onto it's wheels. Jym ran over into the driver's seat and turned it on as Adder carefully loaded Star into the passenger seat. Adder got on the gun, and Jym slammed the gas. When they pulled up to the base there were reds and blues all over the place. Adder stayed in the hog with Star, shooting reds here and there with the gun. Jym ran in with the flag, the bottom floor empty. Broady must have been upstairs with the kid. Jym was almost to the capture point when he was tackled to the ground, and dropped the flag. The red was unarmed. Jym tried to pull out his pistol and realised he had lost it when he was thrown from the hog. Jym scrambled to his feet and blocked a punch the red threw at him. Jym grabbed the red's arms and kneed him in the gut, released him, and kicked him into a wall. Jym picked up the red flag and used the pole as a weapon. He smacked the red in the face with the pole. The red charged in retaliation. Jym stabbed the bottom end of the flag pole into the red's gut. He could feel the red's armour and shields give way under the force of the pole and could feel it scrapping against the red's spinal cord as it impaled the man. Jym put his foot on the red's chest, and pushed him off of the flagpole. The red heaved out one last breath and crumpled to the ground in death. Jym capped the flag, ending the game, and ran out to Star and Adder. They were given fifteen minutes before the next game load. All the guns stopped working and all the red players were taken away by a bunch black Spartans.
"Who are they?" Jym asked. Broady came up behind Jym with the kid, who quickly ran to his father's side.
"I don't know, but they are giving me some bad vibes." Said Broady.
Jym looked over to the wounded Star. She looked really out of it.
"What happened?" Broady asked.
"Sniper. She's pumped full of biofoam. I don't know if it's gonna work or not though. With this whole game changing thing, it won't be enough time for the biofoam to heal the wound."
