 Try Mbam: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

or Spybot Search and destroy

They are both very good and free to use

 Avg<Avast. Avast is better as a free software. Mbam is good too, but itss not realtime, if u get a virus use mbam. I also sometimes use dr. Web cure it

 As one computer geek, I Use Avast, Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D. I usually dont bother with AVG and if you have Norton pre installed with your computer its most likely crap now.My suggestion is, get avast and do a boot scan. I stops you computer before it starts up and does a complete scan of your hard drive. It usually takes about 3 hours for me but its nice and thouroh. After that just run MalwareBytes and Spybot. If none of this doesnt fix the issue id have to know more about this virus before i could say anything else.

Btw registering for the avast free version is easy, give it a fake email and youll be good for a whole year. If you dont it stops working after 2 weeks i think.

 I've heard good things about Microsoft Security Essentials as well. It's installed on my computer, haven't had any problems.

Completely agree. Ever since I got it I've never had a single problem and it doesn't do those annoying popup notifications like McAfee, it just does its job without bothering me.
