I know we had a thread earlier about "Nazi", but that Steve Jobs thread gave me a question.
@Star, not that I can/am disagreeing with your decision, but does what you said also apply to political/religious figures? They also chose "profession[s] that put [them] in the public eye", and are "public figures" O:

Political names should be allowed. So in regards to
Nazi-like names, despite their genocidal history, despite the fact that most Nazi's are racists, they were a valid political party. Nazi's did horrible things to innocents, just as many other governments do, so unless we ban all political/governmental/national names of peoples that have participated in wars, invasions, bombings, chemical war fare, and the like, we cannot disallow "Nazi" like names. KKK and the like, however, were NOT a valid political party (as far as I've been educated to understand), but rather a group of racists primarily led by government leaders, officials, etc. The organization is/was being led by people in office, but the organization itself is/was not a government of any sort. So KKK is connotative to racism as opposed to government, unlike the Nazi Party.
As far as "public figures," they are all up for grabs, so long as they are not racist (against a race of people), derogatory towards a people (against women, for instance), homophobic, or explicitly sexual, they are allowed.
Political/Religious figures, the same goes as above. Anything is fine so long as it is not racist or derogatory, etc...
Did that clear anything up? |

Mmm, mostly, and I completely agree with what you're saying. What if someone comes in with a name like Obama or Jesus and says "I'm a load of baloney"? Would that be derogatory towards, say, Democrats, or Christians?

It would need to be a bit more insulting than that. For all we know, those guys might just be baloney. Both are, IMO, yet I mean no disrespect towards either of their followers. Ya get me? |

Glad we're all on the same page.
iElevate: if you're reading this, take heed, I won't tolerate your useless input on threads that I post in. I am beyond sick of reading your posts. Please do not post in threads that do not concern you. OP said STAR, not iElevate. I answered his question. No input what so ever was needed from you, let alone your useless input.
Thread locked. |
