This whole situation is based on the idea that not preventing their deaths makes it not your fault that they died. The law, and any number of other logic-seeking persons, would disagree with this. The only time you are not responsible for an outcome is when you have no choice in the matter.

In this way it becomes a question of "perform a lesser or a greater evil?" All other things being equal, unless you're evil you're probably going to choose the lesser evil. This is of course assuming you have no other choices.

 Ninja now you are bringing me back to Psychology class lol that one was in our book anyway I believe my exact response was that I could not ever in any way push a man onto the tracks I just couldn't do it the 5 would be dead and that's just it
