Fun fact: the calendar ended at 11:11am GMT. That was 7 and a half hours ago. Oddly enough, nothing happened.
Thankfully, people can stop talking about the end of the world now.
According to somebody in school, we're 12 hours behind the Mayans timezone.
So we're actually supposed to die at 11:11pm.
But that's stupid because the Mayans also didn't have leap years. So if you go by the logic that they just had incorrect timezones, we're supposed to have died a long time ago. (Or least uh... your ancestors in your case. Of course, I'm millions of years old so I would have died myself at the time) |

Wrong on about fourteen counts.
The Mayans lived in central/south america so they'd be, at most, 6 hours behind us.
The calendar ends at 11:11am GMT. GMT. Not the Mayans' time zone.
The leap year thing is a myth. The Mayan calendar did not include leap years because they did not need leap years. Their system was different to ours.
Also we're not supposed to die at all. Mayans did not predict the end of the world. The Mayans that still exist are just celebrating a new year or whatever.

The whole point is that the Mayan calendar did not include leap years so if you follow through on it, the end of the world was ages ago,
Totally agreed on the timezone thing though. First thing I thought when I heard it was: "Seriously? *Facepalm*"
And yeah, been trying to tell everyone that the Mayans never even said specifically that we'd die. So the whole thing is just some stupid interpretation. Most likely they just couldn't be bothered to carry on the calendar.(Could you be bothered to carry on a 2012 year long calendar?)
Even if they were predicting something or ending for a reason, we don't know what it is, and interpreting it as the end of the world is stupid. Plus apparently some Mayan historians/worshippers even said that the world's not going to end. |

What I was saying with the leap years was that the Mayans did not use leap years because they did not need leap years due to the way their calendar worked. The Mayan calendar ended today, not months ago.

This is so stupid. There have been 182 (major) world ending predictions. Look how many of them came true. I'm kinda sick of all the people who really think it is gonna end, and create a ton of fuss about nothing. I just ignore it.
Also. There WOULD be another prediction. The predictors can't live without drama lol

Yeah, I think the world's going to end when everyone stops coming up with stupid conspiracy theories as whatever great entity is out there will finally stop laughing at their small mindedness and at last remember he needs to get to work on ending the world using his amazingly cunning and awesome plan. |

It amazes me that nobody thinks that the reason that the mayans stopped making calanders, was the spaniards came over and gave them small pox and stuff that killed them all

Hmm, so if the Mayans didn't have leap years on their calendars, then 503 more days to survive? Since now is the year 2012, we divide that 2012 (After Death of Christ years) by 4 (The leap year after every 4 years) and get 503 as the result. So that's like somewhere around 2014! O_O DUN DUN DUN!

Umm no... we're supposed to have died 503 days ago. Without leap years, time goes faster, not slower. |

Third time lucky: the leap years thing is a myth. Leap years do not affect the Mayan calendar.
