A place to share any shortcuts you've encountered. I'm sure most people know these. But for those who don't.
1) Windows Left/Right. using the windows key (left of the alt) + <--- or ---> lets you have two windows side by side. I've been either watching Netflix or on here, while doing homework....because homework is boring.
2) easybib.com...Giants told me about this, just check your citation after to make sure it's correct.
3) Putting your textbook followed by "pdf" sometimes gives you a free ebook.
4) You can put exact equations into Wolfram Alpha (Math & Physics, of course this works well with any math/physics based classes as well ie Statics, Dynamics, Thermo, Mechanics etc) and it will find the right answer and show you step by step on how to do it.

Want a better grade, sound smarter, and write better?
In essays: unless it's a personal narrative, never use "I" or "you." Instead of saying something like... "I like the story because it deals with...." You can say, "Readers tend to like the story because..."
Another important one, when talking about literature or studies, research etc - use present tense even though the text was written in the past. For example: The author uses vivid language to... The research indicates 40% of users...
Also, spell out conjunctions - doesn't becomes does not. Numbers 1 - 10 are written out with letters (one, two, three, etc...), and numbers 11+ are written in numbers (11, 12, 13)
Finally, almost all instances of the word "that" can be omitted. Ex: She said that she was hungry makes just as much sense as She said she was hungry.

And if you find an e-book use CTRL +F to find specific words or phrases in the e-book without having to read the whole book for answers.

If you replace the "en" in a wikipedia link with "simple" it shows a less complex version of the page.
Maximum efficiency method for studying:
- 25 minutes of hard work
- 5 minute break
- Every 3rd break should be 20 minutes

If anyone needs help with chemistry or biology homework, you can ask me. I majored in biology and I currently teach physics and chemistry at the high school level.
Don't ask me about physics cause I hate it. Ask dudeman instead.

Connect with smarter, more successful peers. They will inspire you to reach higher, whether they are grades, extracurriculars, life etc.

In a similar vein to Carnage's offer, I might be able to help with math(s), if you don't understand something. I'm currently studying for a mathematics degree, so if you're studying post-grad math(s) or physics I might not be able to, but otherwise I probably can.
I'd also endorse WolframAlpha for checking your solutions (or Mathematica if you have it!).
Other things:
- Use Wikipedia's citations. Many teachers/professors won't be happy if you cite Wikipedia as your source, but you can use it to find sources - just click on the footnotes!
- Ask for help if you need it; discuss with your peers.
- Eat well and healthily.

If you're lucky enough to have multi-monitors in your school/college, Win+Shift+ArrowKey moves the current active window to the next monitor in whichever direction you choose.(through the arrow keys)
Oh and, if you ever get spam-rickrolled by one of your colleagues, Alt-F4 can close windows.
Oh and general hint: Get along with all of your colleagues, whether in school, college or university. Any one of them might be useful some day, even if they seem unbearably irritating half the time. |
