Has anyone overclocked their graphics cards? I was wondering if it is worth it.

/non techie here..

Obvious answer is to google overclocking gpu's. But doesn't overclocking void the warranty as well? I'd figure either by fans or watercooling, make sure the whole system doesn't overheat. Most stock gpu's are fine for regular gaming and other stuff; if you're into hardcore stuff, that's fine as long as you don't fry half your system along with it? xD

Finally something I can post a high-quality response to!

What graphics card do you have?
You can more than likely overclock your graphics card, but you need to take several things into account:
1. Do you have the power? Does your PSU have the headroom to allow for overclocks?

2. Do you have sufficient cooling? Does your card stay at low or high temperatures while under load?

Answer those two questions.

Also, overclocking a GPU doesn't offer that much of an increase in performance.
I overclocked my GPU a couple hundred megahertz with EVGA precisionX and it only raised my frames by about 1-3 frames per second. Along with that, my card kept crashing (even though it was kept at a constant 70 degrees and I have 1000W power supply).

For the games that you play, it wouldn't make that much difference.

PPS: I play BF3 very rarely.....If it wasn't a browser game, I'd probably play it alot more. It just seems like you have to go through so much shit just to get into a match -_- If BF4 isn't browser I will probably get it, but if it is.....then nope.

It is still using Battlelog (the browser part), but it is somewhat better than Battlefield 3.

I overclocked my HD 7970 with AMD's overdrive settings from the CCC just to play Battlefield 3 at max performance on the 4 day double XP. I played for about 7 hours a day whoring all those double XP as I went from Colonel Service Star 51 to 75 within the last day. The only main problem I had was that on the last day of double XP, my graphics card started acting weird as I would get major FPS drop/lag and sometimes it would freeze my computer. That's why when I get the new upcoming GTX 800 series, I will remember to remind myself not to overclock it and just stick with its default clock speed. Also the new AMD drivers version sucks. It raises the temperature of the card too high. :/

Honestly i'd say no unless you plan on upgrading your pc fairly constantly because it will start to burn out your graphics card and will start to impact performance negatively

Yea it sounds like you just fucked up and you just blame it on the manufacturer.

It really depends. If you buy a aftermarket card that is already overclocked out of the box they are usually easier to overclock/mess around with clock speeds/power settings etc, not to mention they usually have better cooling... MSI afterburner is one of the best GPU overclocking tools and is recommended by most overclockers. You have to remember though that doing all this stuff is at your own risk and can obviously fuck up your computer, take Vulture for example. What GPU do you even have anyway? Might not be worth even bothering to try and overclock it... And as Hobo asked, what are your other specs? If your other stuff isn't up to pa then there will probably be even bigger issues to think of other than just worrying about cooking your GPU.

This prebuilt (it's obviously a prebuilt) makes me want to vomit. How much did you pay for this garbage? I'd rather build a new computer for the same price you paid for this.

I'd suggest a custom build either by yourself or from a website it tends to cost the same if not less than a prebuilt counterpart and you can really get top of the line parts take my current buildwhich i do not have with me simply because i don't trust people my things
it cost i believe the same as my roommates MUCH worse desktop computer
it's just a better idea
also dual titans guys
dual
titans
it's like the best thing since sliced bread

How is it garbage Sad I get 40-60 FPS on high settings on BF3 :l Anywho at the time I was working close to 50 hours a week while going to school. I really did not have the time to build a computer.

Almost exactly like mine except a different processor http://www.bestbu...ifications

I think it's because of AMD's HD 7500 series graphics card is the main reason why Hobo is disliking it, lol. Hobo is more of an intel and nVidia fanboy too. xD

How old is it? Did you buy it new? Anyway, I wouldn't recommend even trying to overclock that card, probably wouldn't help much anyway. What size monitor do you use and what type of connection do you use for it? Unless you got that PC dirt cheap you probably got ripped off, just saying. If you have a less than full HD monitor that is probably why you get all right FPS in BF3. The lower the res the easier it should be for the card to pump out more FPS. Also, building a computer doesn't take very long, as long as you have the money etc... For a beginner it would probably take 2-3 hours. That is if you have all the parts of course.

$129.99 AMD 6 core Processor
$164.99 AMD Radeon 2gb GFX card
$149.99 10GB of Ram
$229.99 My monitor
$159.99 A compcase
Total Already: $839.95 and that is excluding all the other shit I don't know to buy (power supply)... These prices are from www.newegg.com Since I bought the monitor separate from the CPU I just know what I paid. Also that's excluding tax and shipping.

P.S. not overclocking it, but my PC I'm guessing would have come out to $800 buying it or building it either way (Just components not monitors or accessories)

P.P.S. I probably would have bought this one. Had it been out, when I had bought my pc...http://www.bestbuy.com/site/envy-phoenix-desktop-16gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive/9272105.p?id=1219010358626&skuId=9272105&st=hp%20envy%20desktop&cp=1&lp=2
