Okay, so two years ago I was talking with my physics teacher about free energy and efficiency. I described a system to him and he didn't know what to say.
The system has the following properties:
In orbit around the Earth, there is "no" gravity there.
Magnets are placed separated apart, and repelling each other.
A metal disk is placed around a metal rod, and can spin "freely" with a ball bearing. The disk has copper attached to it, with repelling magnets on the circumference. I'm not sure how electricity is generated in those flashlights where you can shake them, but it is designed like that. Now, wires are placed around those copper areas to collect the electricity. The electricity is funneled to the top of the machine, and powers it, making it spin.
Since the machine is spinning nearly freely, in a near frictionless manner, without any gravity.. why would this machine not generate infinite energy?

I will be on later to correct anything I missed and I'm sorry if I didn't explain it well enough.

In orbit there is gravity about 90% of what you experience, orbit is basically you falling ! although Im not sure why gravity comes into this system? A diagram would seriously help cause im not really very sure what your trying to describe to answer your question fully.

Im guessing though that what your essentially saying you want a current produced using the magnets ? Well with time magnets "weaken" so eventually the friction would would become greater than the force of he magnets so it would stop.
If you were to use electromagnets then the system wouldnt ever be able to put out more power than was ever put in, so a pointless system.

If you draw up a quick diagram Id be able to explain in more detail hopefully.

Impossible! Second Law of Thermodynamics, Conservation of Energy, Entropy, blah blah blah.

Yes Ninja. Except the thing with those rules, is that they can and are broken. What existed before the big bang? There had to be something. Nothing + nothing does not equal something.

Triiiiiippppppyyyyyyyyy.

Yeah magnets do weaken over time. I just don't know how long that would take.

It's a good idea if it worked which I'm not sure it would but if it was possible I think It would have already been done? Or not?

It doesn't break the rules the conservation of energy says PE+KE=Total Energy It had the potential energy stored -_-

Denied.

If you go back far enough spacetime collapses into a singularity where all matter and energy in the universe are present at a single point of infinite temperature and density. Be my guest as to explain where this singularity came from. If you can explain that I think you are in for a noble Prize !!

Dudeman, I'm not sure if your really correct there Because the amount of matter in the universe can be different to what it was before the big bang as the laws of conservation of matter break down at the big bang, as do all the laws of physics.......
Happy to be corrected though.

For example to enforce huggys point, where does the stuff that gets sucked into a black hole go? the black hole doesnt pick up the energy, also nothing escapes from a black hole, the energy is missing. SO WHERE DID IT GO? Grin paradox ate it :Grin

I'm not so sure it's that simple, but it's at this stage where I start to get confused. As really you need to more about Quantum mechanics and general relativity than I do.

But I'm sure if you do some research on the Black hole information paradox you will find your answer about there.

Our current level of Physics understanding only explains events happening since a (very small) fraction of a second after the 'Big Bang'. We do not have sufficient knowledge at the moment to consider moments before then. Therefore, to refer to such events as 'before the Big Bang' is currently guesswork and cannot be taken seriously as a scientific argument.

I don't deny that it's possible that in another universe (or if you must in a 'pre-universe' to ours) the laws of Physics could be different. However, at this stage in the life of our universe (not that we own it, but you know what I mean!), there is overwhelming evidence to suggest that the aforementioned rules hold. Until provided with evidence to the contrary, a true scientist should continue to hold these laws as true.

E: Also, I believe that your claim is unverifiable - you would need an infinite amount of time to verify it - making it an unscientific statement.

well nobody mentioned going back before "the beginning of time" I said you if can explai it your up for a nobel prize... that was he only mention.

But as ODST said yes black holes do effect that equation (well might ?) as does the fact that at the big bang the laws of physics dont really apply !

as I said read more into he black hole information paradox and it will explain it beter than I ever will

Ninja is right by saying that we cannot use what happened before the big bang as a scientific argument, because we simply don't know. I was just saying that there are weird things that can happen, like quantum tunneling. And yes, this is not a new idea, and has been tested before. The best we can possibly do right now is make a 99% efficient machine, losing 1% due to heat. A machine can only run effectively if there is a change in temperature (in other words, a loss in energy).

yea huggy, there still trying to figure out where this matter goes. It might just pop up in another part of our universe perhaps in the future or past or even present. If it did that, then it doesnt breach the conservation of energy. Of course, on the other hand, due to the theories behind black holes, this would imply that black holes lead some place and that it is not an infinite hole that nothing escapes. This would over turn black hole theories. If the matter is outright destroyed, the conservation of energy is violated and overturns that theories. Finally, it could be going to alternate universes which violates both ideas! There are so many possibility. Maybe, all this energy is getting pushed back to the beginning of the universe and causes the big bang, thus energy in = energy lost! IT COULD BE ANYTHING!
