As a zombie, if I can get it, I find plasma pistol to be the most effective mêlée weapon, followed by plasma rifle and shotgun. Nothing sucks like getting OS and AC, then being let down because th only thing you have to attack with is a sniper.
As a human, my normal weapon combination is shotgun + pistol. The shotgun works as a short range and even mid range weapon while the pistol gets the rest of the range that I'm likely to need on most maps. Even a camoed zombie in the water will fall with a few decent pistol shots.
Weapons really depend on the map you're on; on Rat Race I prefer to swap my pistol for an assault rifle or flamethrower if it's nearby because what use is a pistol on this map? Again, Chill Out has a handy AR/PR that you should be able to grab. On Gephy I'll take a sniper because, obviously, I'm not gonna get anywhere with a pistol when my quarry is at the base while I'm on the bridge.
But no matter what, I'll always have my shotgun and that beats all (literally) in mêlée (since I'm not going to carry around a plasma pistol for the sole purpose of switching to it to beat down the zombies).
Finally, my best tip is to stay alive: I always get bored and run around, do a few laps on Rat Race or Hang Em or something. And that is when I die.

Fav Beat down weapon for both Human and Zombie would have to be AR, its got a fairly long reach and it doesnt take forever to reset.
On top of that, its a fairly good weapon to kill zombies with

Needler as zombie i think it reaches farther, and it makes my match when i get a lot of kills with it for human,i'd say shottie, every weapon(usually) takes forever to melee,if not that,it sucks for killing.

If you are a good player then this thread serves no purpose. The only way to be a better player is to practice.
How do you think good players like Champion got where they are today?
Do you think they asked for help? No, they practice, and practiced until perfection.
there is no way someone could use any of the advice here, because everyone is different. |

...thats stupid. Discussing ideas and playstyles is how we grow and learn new things. Many of the things ive learned came from discussion with others and yes practice which is a important part.

Yes, practice is important, but if the only way to become a better player is through practice, then why would I bother making this thread?
Just about every multiplayer game: video games, sports, puzzle games, or whatever, skill is only one piece of the puzzle. Another piece is strategy. In order to master your own strategy, you have to learn, observe, and analyze how other players are players. Hey, who knows, you may this extra insight to your advantage.

Regarding favorite beat down weapons, this is the order from my favorite to my least favorite:
AR, Shottie, Plasma Rifle, Sniper, Pistol, Needler, Plasma Rifle. |

My favorite is the AR because like what dancer, it has a fairly long range and has a fast reset, or recoil. Therefore, it has the most balance so for me, AR is the most effectively weapon to infect zombies. Shottie is a really close second. Although it has a slightly longer beat-down range than AR, it takes a slightly longer time than AR to reset. During close-quarter combat with humans, I prefer faster reset than longer range, so AR wins. Plasma pistol though, I believe, has the fastest reset compared to other beatdown weapons, so it should be my favoite beat-down weapon. However, the range is so short that it really limits its effectiveness, in my opinion. Using a plasma pistol, you have to get so close to the human target that leaves you vulnerable to the human counter-beatdown. Therefore, plasma rifle is most effectively in taking down a group of campers who have limited mobility. If you want to have a 1-on-1 beatdown showdown with a human, however, AR or shottie are the best weapons. Sniper is a in-betweener, which doesn't any advantage compared to other beatdown weapons, other than its the best weapon to hit through walls in Longest. I detest Pistol, Needler, and Plasma Rifle because they take a longer time to reset or recoil. However, they do have longer beatdown range than the other weapons I do use them to reach Humans who are on a higher ledge than I am or when I charge a group of humans, knowing that I can let out one beatdown before they kill me. From my experience, I rarely infect humans with a plasma rifle because it seems to lag when I hit a human; therefore, my beatdown doesn't often register as an infection. Needler is slightly better than the plasma rifle, but it still sometimes lag when I beatdown a human. Pistol is the most sturdy long range beatdown weapon. When I hit a human with a pistol, it is most likely going to be an infection. Nevertheless, I still prefer to use weapons with faster reset/recoil such as AR, shottie, and the plasma pistol. |

As for human, my favorite beatdown weapon is the shottie because it is usually the weapon I have out when going close quarters with a zombie. Its fast reset/recoil and its pretty good range really helps me lounge at an unexpected zombie attacker for a beatdown kill. |

Hm, yes, of course, because when you're learning to play guitar there's no way lessons will help you, is there?
And thanks for that, Champ, I'll try some different melee weapons next time I play.

Which is you favorite BEAT-DOWN weapon and why?
*as both human and zombie, or whichever one you fancy
1. to get close to humans I prefer any human weapon, this is because when camo phases in and out, plasma weapons, especially the plasma pistol let of a glow that can be seen clear across blood gulch.
If I am going to be jumping into a group of 4-5 humans such as at os spawn on heh or top of ramp on prisoner I use the plasma pistol for its short reset time. One-on-one with humans I prefer to have an AR and for hitting through walls I like to have a sniper or plasma rifle handy. Maybe I think about melee tactics too much...
*********************************************************************
Tips for zombies.
1. STRAFE, seriously if you don't strafe as zombie you have no right to ever call hax or bot or anything because you are insanely easy to kill.
2. Multiple people can get the over-shield so don't stand directly on the spawn but rather off to the side a bit. If you know os will be spawning soon team chat with other zombs and let them know.
3, the only exception to rule one, this mostly happens on gephy ledges, when you see a human not paying attention either afk or sniping, use them as a shield from other humans, humans can not shoot through each other.
4. If you are only one with os for a zombie charge, use other zombies as shields, you want to be able to get as close as you can to humans before you start getting shot.
5. learn how to ladder quickly and efficiently, standing directly on top of another zombie DOESN'T WORK AND NEVER WILL.
6. find spots where you can kill humans through walls/floors esp. on chiron and longest, I have also seen it done on heh at the os spot
7. charging as a group is the most effective zombie tactic
8a. generally go for non campers first, even though this pisses me off when I'm not camping and zombies go for me from a zombie point of view it is normally best to have as many zombies as possible.
8b. If a majority of humans are not camping go for campers first.
Summary of rule 8, go for smallest group of humans first
9. if you are getting bump lagged going at a single human with a group of zombs step back from the fight and let it wear off, if you can, watch for the human to jump, then go to where he will land and back tap him
10. if you see a foot sticking over a ledge, crouch jump and kill the ******
This can often be done by your self, on Prisoner flag spots and rat race, a two person ladder is all that is needed to hit someone with a foot over the edge, of course finding a zombie who has any sense of teamwork or the ability to sit still for 3 seconds is another issue
11. when using os generally don't use camo when charging a group of camping humans, it lowers your health and the humans aren't going anywhere, so don't worry about the speed bonus. Of course there are times when you may feel the loss of health is worth using camo to get slightly closer without being seen, only you can make that choice.
12. if lag hits or fake hits or whatever you want to call when you hear the successful melee sound make you rage, turn your sound off or down when you are zomb. There is nothing more frustrating to hear that lag hit 6 or 7 times when trying to hit a human, and as champ said earlier, raging mast you lose focus and generally play worse. Without hearing those pesky lag hits you will never know that they are even happening, you will just think you missed the human.
************************************************************
tips for humans
1. know the maps and the server. get to know where weapons/grenades are, where zombies can spawn, how long you need to wait to kill a zombie after it spawns due to spawn protect, and other server quirks etc.
become familiar with zombie speed, you can track zombies through walls if you are familiar with how fast they move, when used in combination with the clock in the top left becomes very handy for nading zombs with os before they are a threat. just so you don't think the "through walls" thing is a hack here is an example, on rat race it takes about 5 seconds for a zombie to go through the teleporter after grabbing an os that has fallen (assuming he runs strait through and doesn't wait for crouch camo, so just time a nade toss so that it explodes about 6 seconds after the os falls. EDIT: these times are for example only. This same technique is handy of pretty much every map, if you are having trouble with getting it down try seeing how are you go in a specific amount of time as a zombie on different maps. For example see how long it takes to get from os on chill out to tunnel right before humans then if you figure out what what time on chill out the os spawns you can nade the hell out of os zombs while they are running through the tunnel.
There are tons of little things like this for each map that are helpful as human.
2. learn to backpack reload
3. use your standard lead to kill zombies before they come around corners, again, not hacks, just get used to zombie speed, then when a zombie is chasing you and runs behind a pillar or other obstacle you can predict when he will come out the other side and shoot right before he gets there and get a kill without seeing the zombie alive again, (you will see his dead body come tumbling out from behind whatever) EDIT: this is only for those of us without 33 ping, if you have 33 ping you be called a botter even if you don't do this.
4. champ already covered different guns for different maps, get used to something that works for you, generally a long range/ short range combo of some variety.
5. Don't get distracted with far away zombies,
6. when swarmed, keep moving and kill the closest zombies first
*************************************************************
Tips for getting credits.
1. get mulitkills
2. get sprees, covered here http://www.foodcl...page_id=17
thats all i can thin of right now at 7 in the morning

I think Smiley mentioned, when he first implement that system, that camo raises your speed but lowers your health, making you like a ninja, while overshield raises your health and lowers your speed, making you like a tank.
